Remote Radio Head (RRH): RRH upconverts and radiates signal

5G Base band unit: The core network, which performs various functions, user billing, and authentication. The Baseband unit (BBU), which is the heart of a 5G base station, performs the majority of the signal processing. Executes the complete software stack of a 5G network and then transfers the processed signals to the RRH using a 40Gbps optical interface. A 5G network can have a bandwidth ranging from 100 MHz in the sub-6 GHz band to 400 MHz in the mmWave band. Further, the BBU optical interface to the RRH is designed such that it is compliant with the industry-driven ORAN standard. This enables BBU to be interfaced with any commercial off-the-shelf RRH. This brings extreme design flexibility to our 5G network solution as telecom service providers using our network have a choice of mixing and matching BBU and RRH solutions according to their choice. This will remove the risk of telecom service providers being captive to a particular technology vendor.
