Wireless technology has remarkably transformed since its foundation and now it is an integral part of all age groups. With the evolution of wireless technology from first generation (1G) to fifth generation (5G) it has also been evolving our lives. The latest 5G and beyond, moreover, the upcoming 6G technology has the potential to revolutionize the interaction platform with the world. The sky-high speed, better reliability, and low latency will entitle innovative applications and better services that will ensure an additionally connected world. With the above-mentioned motivation and to make smoother connectivity for our society, the UP government has taken the initiative in the wireless communication sector to inculcate innovative ideas by establishing the Centre Of Excellence (COE) for 5G/6G technologies under the Startup Policy 2020. For this, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has given the opportunity to FIRST IIT Kanpur. Under this initiative, COE identifies the startups registered in UP as well as mentors them to groom their ideas into an enterprise. The outset of COE in the wireless communication sector will ease the living style of mankind in various fields such as better connectivity, healthcare, smart farming, virtual reality, etc. Consequently, a rise in enterprises in UP also increases employment in turn elevates the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate.
The COE aims to incubate 5G/6G and communication-based startups at the CoE incubator, promote startups/ MSMEs applying the best innovations to gain competitive benefits and help them improve their business efficiency and quality of services and products. Perform research on advanced technologies which can potentially become a part of the 6G standard. For example, AI/ML for 5G, intelligent reflective surfaces, cell-free massive MIMO systems.
We intend to successfully establish CoE-5G/6G in IIT Kanpur to serve the startup and MSME sector across the country and at an international scale with the objective of creating a socio-economic impact.
